Guitar Tips by Angelo Jannotti : Pedal chromatic Warm-up

This month I would like to suggest another simple chromatic exercise (ex 1).

Check Julys guitar tip for hand position suggestions.

This should also be played slow and legato. As stated in Julys guitar tip, it may be helpful to concentrate on one hand at time with each ½ step you ascend. This exercise will start on the high E string at the fourth fret with your fourth finger. Every other note pedals back to the first fret. (i.e. 4-1 3-1 2-1) Do this twice on each string. After you finish on the low E move up ½ step and work your way back to the high E. Once you finish on the high E move up ½ step and continue this sequence until you get to the twelve position.

Make sure you are keeping your left hand fingers low while thinking about hand position. Watch for over shoot and wasted motion with the right hand.

Remember to try to stay relaxed while doing these exercises. Since we are dealing with synchronizing the right and left hands, accuracy is of utmost importance. See you next time.
